Oak Hill Academy Shines at CBA Model UN Conference

On Friday, December 5, Oak Hill Academy had a truly fantastic evening at CBA’s 13th Model UN Conference, “Lucky #13”! Oak Hill Academy took a group of 51 students (sixth, seventh, and eighth grade) to participate in the Christian Brothers Academy’s Model United Nations competition. Model United Nations (Model UN) is a worldwide organization that gives students in middle school, high school, and college the opportunity to simulate the research, debate, and problem-solving of the real UN.
Model UN asks a lot of its middle school participants: in-depth historical research, clear writing, persuasive speaking, resilience, authentic listening, empathy, creativity, and imagination. Students are forced to think on their feet, answer questions on the fly, and compose complex arguments in cooperation with complete strangers in the span of mere minutes. Our OHA students arrived prepared, determined, and absolutely fired up. The debates were engaging, eye-opening, and pure enjoyment, but witnessing the smiles on our students’ faces was the ultimate validation of why we do what we do. Our students brought a lot to the table which was evident by the record nineteen individual awards won! Once again, the Oak Hill Academy students were awarded the Best Large Delegation and were complimented by their preparedness and seriousness.
