At Oak Hill Academy, Latin is far more than an ancient language—it is a cornerstone of an education that develops strong readers, critical thinkers, and confident problem solvers. Research continues to show that studying Latin strengthens vocabulary, reading comprehension, analytical reasoning, and communication skills, making it a valuable part of a well-rounded education.

Since Oak Hill Academy opened its doors in 1981, Latin has remained an integral part of the curriculum, preparing generations of students for academic success. This year’s results on the 2026 National Latin Exam continue that proud tradition.

Sponsored by the American Classical League (ACL) and the National Junior Classical League (NJCL), the National Latin Exam is recognized nationwide as one of the premier academic competitions in classical studies. Oak Hill Academy students once again delivered exceptional results, with 91% of our seventh-grade students and 82% of our eighth-grade students earning national recognition. Overall, an impressive 87% of Oak Hill’s Latin students received awards on the 2026 National Latin Exam.

Eighth Grade National Beginning Latin Exam

Oak Hill’s eighth graders earned an outstanding collection of national honors.

Receiving Gold Medals and Summa Cum Laude recognition were James Fu, who achieved a perfect score of 40 out of 40, along with Talia Waldman, Owen Fennell, Parker Weine, Bry-elle Postelle, Logan Jalandoni, Kaelan Harrington, and Karina Patel.

Receiving Silver Medals and Maxima Cum Laude honors were Veronika Yakubov, Emily Xie, Boden DeVivo, Alex Chubatyy, Owen Drudy, Noa Wellner, Elliott Li, Kristoffer Padjen, Maura Gilson, and Caitlyn Ho.

Students earning Magna Cum Laude recognition included Emilie Bernard, Quinn Migliaccio, Filip Baszak, Nayan Patel, Krish Patel, Riya Sethi, and Olive Sperber.

Receiving Cum Laude honors were Maddox Mehta, Matthew Deno, and Samaya Moore.

Seventh Grade Introduction to Latin Exam

Oak Hill’s seventh graders achieved equally remarkable success, highlighted by an extraordinary accomplishment. Brody Williams, Isaac Gitmeid, Stella Wang, and Arden Maslo each earned perfect scores, a rare distinction that reflects exceptional mastery of the material.

Joining them as recipients of Gold Medals and Summa Cum Laude recognition were Hunter Sues, Vivienne Wolfe, Sabrina Cizin, Raeyaan Joshi, Miles Coleman, Rohan Jain, Leila Gioia, Carter Palamara, Abby Reji, Marc Mehta, and Christopher Charabaty.

Students earning Silver Medals and Maxima Cum Laude honors included Darcie DeVivo, Arnav Gadre, Faiz Akhtar, Shaan Patel, Nicholas Perosi, Pari Jain, Emily Swartwood, and Robert Yu.

Receiving Magna Cum Laude recognition were Alex Geyfman, Michael Trucillo, and Amelia Rizkalla.

Students recognized with Cum Laude honors were Mac Pascocello, Roxanne O’Leary, Lara Kulkarni, and Yadarth Soma.

The National Latin Exam appears on the National Association of Secondary School Principals’ Advisory List of National Contests and Activities and serves as a benchmark for excellence in classical language studies across the country.

For more than three decades, Oak Hill Academy students have consistently distinguished themselves on the National Latin Exam. This year’s exceptional performance reflects the dedication and perseverance of our students and the outstanding leadership of longtime Latin teacher Mrs. Lisa Coakley, whose passion for classical languages continues to inspire academic excellence.
