Oak Hill Academy receives Three Awards from the American Scholastic Press

The American Scholastic Press Association has awarded two First Place wins to OHA’s Reflections Literary Magazine and our yearbook, Omnia Reflections also received First Place for the artwork.  This prestigious competition is judged through a variety of criteria; design, content, theme and editing.  OHA competes with schools all over the country.  Our Upper School students submit poetry and short stories as the school year progresses. Our Reflections staff and moderator, Mrs. Maureen Daly, works diligently on selecting the works to include each year.  Our literary staff’s dedication to excellence is reflected with this recognition.

Similarly, our school’s yearbook, Omnia, is reviewed for content presentation, general page design, general photography, publication structure and creativity.  This annual book represents the entire year of classes, clubs, sports and activities.  From photography to layout to production, Omnia tells the yearly story of our school.  Students are always amazed at their growth and experiences as they turn the pages.  Our moderator, Mrs. Christine Cicero, works laboriously to include all aspects of our Oak Hill life.  To chronicle our school year allows for reflection.  This award showcases the values of Oak Hill Academy.

Oak Hill Academy’s commitment to excellence is evident in all academic disciplines.  The Upper School’s English Department concentrates on all aspects of writing as students move through grades 5-8.  The writing process involves poetry, prose, journaling, essay development, and creative narratives. The culminating writing project is the research paper, which teaches the students all phases of the formal writing process.  Students are well-prepared for high school and beyond at OHA.

Congratulations to OHA’s Reflections adviser, Mrs. Maureen Daly, and Omnia adviser, Mrs. Christine Cicero (Oak Hill Academy, Class of 2000).  Congratulations to the Upper School Staff and students for a job well done!
