At the beginning of the school year, the sixth graders wrote their reading autobiographies, chronicling their reading lives from as far back as they could remember to current time. They included favorite stories that Mom and Dad read to them during their toddler years, the first chapter book they read on their own…as well as favorite series, poems, and nonfiction.
Now that the first semester has ended, the sixth graders were asked again in a mid-term takeaway to evaluate where they stand in their reading journeys. For some who have grown to love reading, the path is easy. For others…the path is rocky. Those who found the journey difficult reflected on the stumbling blocks…and during this season of fresh starts, some resolved to give reading a second chance.
