For the third consecutive year, The Daughters of the American Revolution Shrewsbury-Monmouth Chapter (DAR) has recognized an Oak Hill Academy student special recognition for his outstanding essay. Eighth grader, Preston Overcash, was awarded THIRD PLACE in this year’s historical essay contest. Students were tasked with writing historical fiction essays using the backdrop of the Tea Parties that took place in South Carolina and Virginia during the Revolution. After researching and investigating each movement, Preston’s essay concentrated on the importance of tea and coffee usage. All of the eighth graders became better patriots after this writing contest.

As part of the Upper School’s English curriculum, students are perfecting their writing skills all year through regional contests, essays, research papers and journals. All Upper School students became more informed patriots as a result of this essay contest. Special thanks to the DAR and to the Upper School English teacher, Mrs. Daly, for her dedication to excellence.
