8th Grader Scores a Second Consecutive PERFECT SCORE at AMC-8
Each year Oak Hill students are given the opportunity to take the prestigious American Mathematics Competition – 8 (AMC8). This is a most challenging international contest. After achieving an Oak Hill Academy First last year with a perfect score, 8th grader Grace Zheng, repeated this amazing feat with another PERFECT SCORE in the competition this year!!

The Mathematical Association of America recognized this incredible feat by giving her The Maryam Mirzakhani AMC8 Award. This award recognizes Grace as a top scorer among all young women taking the contest and includes a monetary scholarship.
The Maryam Mirzakhani AMC 8 Award is named after Maryam Mirzakhani, an inspirational mathematician and professor of mathematics at Stanford University. “Dr. Mirzakhani achieved so much at such a young age and defied all the odds on her journey to mathematical excellence,” said Meera Desai. Mirzakhani was the first female honored with the Fields Medal, the most prestigious award in mathematics and she is an IMO gold medalist with a perfect score. Mirzakhani’s accomplishments laid the groundwork for aspiring young mathematicians and she is quoted by Stanford News saying “I am sure there will be many more women winning this kind of award in coming years.” On 14 July 2017, Mirzakhani died of breast cancer at the age of 40.
In addition, she received the 2025 Young Women in Mathematics Award, another Oak HIll First! Grace will be celebrated at Oak Hill’s June awards ceremony with a trophy and certificate for being the Gold Winner at OHA and for placing in the top 1% nationally. The Silver Award for 2nd place went to James Badishkanian, while the Bronze Award for 3rd place in the school was given to James Fu. Both boys scored in the top 5% nationally. Fifth grader, Ellen Fu was recognized by the MAA for her achievement as a student at or below 6th grade.
