Oak Hill Academy Students Take Home Five Awards at Mathleague.org Competition

On Wednesday, December 14, 2017, fifteen Oak Hill Academy students competed in an elementary mathematics contest sponsored by Mathleague.org. This regional competition was held at the Kent Place School in Summit. Mathleague.org sponsors a number of elementary school contests to be held throughout the country each school year. The contests are structured in such a way that students find the tests good preparation for other elementary and junior high math Best Private School NJ contests. Top-scoring students at qualifying meets held throughout the year are invited to compete at their state's championship in May, and winners of the state championships are invited to a national championship in June.

The contest features a number sense round, target round, sprint round, and team round. For the 3rd grade participants, Oak Hill student, Luli Mitchell took home the 10th place award. In the 4th grade, OHA had two winners: 7th place Annabel Sparano and 9th place Maya Bhasin. In the 6th grade competition, the Oak Hill winners were 6th place Monmouth County Private SchoolMitchell Oldham and 9th place Luke DeAngelis.

Eight of Oak Hill’s fifteen students who attended qualified to move on to the state competition in May. They are Vincent Li, Annabel Sparano, Sohah Kulkarni, Keegan O’Conner, Luke DeAngelis, Nico Fabricant, Daniel Fiskin, and Mitchell Oldham.

Approximately 100 students from nine schools participated in the competition. Oak Hill’s success can be attributed to the students’ hard work, as well as their challenging math curriculum at Oak Hill.
