Lower School Technology Center

Over the summer, Oak Hill Academy renovated a section of a former classroom / library to make it a state of the art TechnologyCenter for its Lower school students as well as some Upper school language classes.

The Lower School Tech center is located off of the Upper school technology center and boasts 18 new desktop computers all newly wired for internet and network transfers as well as an interactive Mimeo-board used in conjunction with the computers to host the Middlebury Interactive Spanish Program.

Middlebury Interactive Spanish is an on-line distance learning program that begins in Kindergarten and utilizes the principles of the “immersive language pedagogy and teaching methodology use at the Middlebury College’s renowned Language Schools to help students gain a stronger base of comprehension and to accelerate learning.”  The curriculum is filled with diverse, multimedia language activities that focus on listening, speaking, reading and writing Spanish.  Foreign language teacher, Mrs. Ginger Koar, uses the program and its flexible implementation in her blended learning environment programs through eighth grade either as a primary or supplemental Spanish program.

Spanish language program is not the only language being taught in this new facility. The Lower School Technology center is used for French language classes as well.   In addition to foreign language instruction, the supplemental classroom may be used by LowerSchool teachers as an additional way to provide an enriching experience for students from their normal classroom environment.  Teachers may use it for cross curricular or other cooperative learning lessons to enhance their curriculum of academic excellence.
