Oak Hill Academy Soccer Teams Reach Finals

For the first time since 1991, both the boys and girls soccer teams reached the MCISSL (Monmouth County Interscholastic Soccer League) Conference Finals.  Oak Hill Academy was the only school (out of 57 total teams from 29 different schools) to have both of its teams represented this season in the finals.  The MCISSL was celebrating its 50th Anniversary this season as well.

The Oak Hill Academy Mustang girls’ soccer team came into the MCISSL Liberty Conference finals at Cross Farms Park in Holmdel, NJ on an 8 game winning streak and as co-champs of the Liberty “E” Conference title having defeated St. Mary’s in 2OT for the second straight game in the “E” Conference finals.  St. Mary’s was the only team to defeat Oak Hill (5-4 in the opening game of the season in early September after going up 4-0 on Oak Hill).  The girls’ team made some adjustments and never looked back from that game on.

In the finals, Oak Hill played a previously undefeated Shrewsbury team, and went up 1-0 on a goal by the team “Jim Carrigan MVP” and 8th grade All-Star, Abigail Cieri in the 8th minute.  6th grader Brooke Tackett put them up 2-0 on a terrific cross from 8th grade winger, Alexa Kulawiak ten minutes later.  This turned out to be the game-winner as Shrewsbury was able to score once in the second half, but our defense led by 8th grade MCISSL All-Star, Erin Gilfillan, played tough to preserve the girls’ first title since 1991!  It was a tremendous season by all members of the teams.  Each girl played a role in our 9-1 season, and it was a storybook ending for our 8th graders who have worked so hard for 4 years.

The boys’ team played St. James following the girls’ game.  After a slow start and going down 5-0, the boys team lead by “Richard Hartman Sportsmanship” award winner, Christopher Misson ( 2 goals ), and a goal from 8th grader, Ethan Ferraiola, battled back to make it 5-3 before they ran out of time.  Despite losing in the final, the boys showed that “never say die” attitude and finished a fantastic season with an 8-2 record and as Liberty “F” Conference Champions and Runner-up for the overall Liberty Conference title.

Congratulations to both teams and all of their team members for a very memorable season!

Student Quote

"The academic environment is top notch, but we feel even more important are the "intangibles" that they are coming away with. Kindness, respect, confidence, honesty and tolerance. These are what truly matter. We are all so thankful for this Oak Hill experience. Imagine if every child had this educational experience, what a world it would be."
